Power Tie Give Away at Jordan High School - A Great Success

11/3/2019

Our Power Tie Give Away on October 23, 2019 at Jordan High School was another Power Tie Giveaway success. We presented to Mr. Bryan Carter's Male Academy class of 16 young men.
We accomplished our goal of reaching out to young, male students and providing them with business mentorship and a useful, necessary skill they can use and apply as they move forward in life.

1.  Power Partner Professionals Present - Get the Message Across

Jordan students first heard from four business professionals. The professionals explained why and when they wear a necktie and how they view themselves and others in a necktie. Each business mentor also explained their business background.

“It doesn't matter how you look normally, put on a tie and you instantly look professional and command respect."
- Phil Shekerlian -  Bauer & Shekerlian Law
"The mentoring we provide with donated ties used by successful professionals has an impact on these young men. We leave them with a practical skill and in many cases their very first necktie"
- Alan Armijo, Power Partners USA
"An individual can have a profound effect in any situation by wearing a tie. Elevating your attire will immediately gain you a higher status and give you a better likelihood of acceptance as a leader among people."
-Marcus Davalos - HP Inc.

2.  The Give Away and Training

Each student selected two ties from one of several donated ties. One was brand new and the other a tie used and donated by a business professional. The class was divided into smaller groups and the mentors gave the students first hand instruction on how to tie the necktie.  Every student was attentive, eager to learn and they even helped each other out.

3.  The End Result

The students realized and shared the reasons and benefits of owning and wearing a necktie.

We interviewed students for their reaction and feedback. You could see their sense of accomplishment in learning how to knot their own necktie. Each of the students had the chance to tell us their college or work goals.

Students have a new skill and ready to use it. Each student walked out with a new appreciation for dressing professionally. They also now have two neckties to add to their collection. They felt confident that they could tie their own necktie and were looking forward to representing themselves in the best light possible.

Power Partners USA delivered 40 more Power neckties to complete the 100 requested by Julie Eramo at the California Dept. of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

The ties will be handed out to inmates interviewing at the 1st Annual Employment Fair on April 11 at the RJ Donovan Correctional Facility in San Diego.

Alan Armijo, president of Power Partners USA, requested that Julie inform the inmates that the “high-quality, silk neckties are true Power Ties donated by professionals who wore them with a suit. Professionals who graduated from top-notch universities and have been successful in various businesses.”

Heidi Nye, publisher of Alamitos Bay Neighbors, solicited and donated 20 ties specifically for this program. "These men have served their time," Heidi says. "Now it's their time to serve their communities by becoming gainfully employed. I hope these ties help facilitate that transition."

Heidi's monthly magazine serves the affluent Long Beach neighborhoods of Naples, The Peninsula, Spinnaker Bay, Spinnaker Coves, Bay Harbour, La Rochelle, and Marina Park. For more information, please contact Heidi at 562.704.9942.

In appreciation for Heidi’s efforts, Power Partners USA will be donating new ties for those students participating in early-April mock interviews through LONG BEACH CaLL, a high school mentoring program for which Heidi has volunteered.   CaLL’s Career & Internship Readiness Conference will be held Sat., April 6, 2019, 9am - 1pm at Browning High School (www.longbeachcall.org).

Included with the tie was a free haircut at Envy Beauty Studio in downtown Long Beach.
