Our first Power Tie Give Away on Nov. 2, 2016 at Poly High School was a ringing success. We presented to Ms. Libby Huff's class who were preparing for an outside business related field trip. We accomplished our goal of reaching out to young, male students and providing them with information and a useful, necessary skill they can use and apply as they move forward in life. 1. Power Partner Professionals Present - Get the Message AcrossPoly High Freshman and Sophomore students first heard from business professionals. The professionals explained why and when they wear a tie and how they view themselves and others in a necktie.
2. The Give Away and TrainingEach student selected a tie from one of several donated to PPUSA. The professionals then divided up the class into smaller groups and gave them first hand instruction on how to tie the necktie. Every student was attentive, eager to learn and they even helped each other out. Included with the tie was a free haircut at Envy Beauty Studio in downtown Long Beach. 3. The End ResultThe students realized the reasons and benefits of owning and wearing a necktie. We interviewed students for their reaction and feedback. You could see their sense of accomplishment in learning how to knot their own necktie. No more clip on ties for these young men. Each student walked out with a new appreciation for dressing professionally. They also now have a new tie to add to their collection. They felt confident that they could tie their own necktie and were looking forward to representing themselves in the best light possible. The professionals all felt good about their contribution and plan on attending the next Power Partners USA Power Tie Give Away. Students wore their ties the next day to a professional business event which required them to dress for success and represent themselves well. Students dressing for success and representing themselves the next day.
Power Partners Bethany Guajardo from Team Beth and Alan Armijo of Tech International both are in the business of developing websites. They both provide quality graphic design and functional website technology. However, they work in two different website technology platforms. Team Beth specializes in WordPress while Tech International uses a proprietary Content Management System. Recently, Alan received a lead for a website project. After hearing the requirements, Alan realized that the client wanted a WordPress type website. Alan immediately called Bethany to strategize how they could work together to meet the clients specifications. Tech International sub contracted the majority of the design and technical work to Team Beth. Tech International handled the business development and project management. The only way this collaboration between “competitors” could have happened is knowing what each other’s capabilities were.
